A first!

So I've finally broken down and am trying the blogging thing. A few explanations may be in order for those that may read this.

First off, the name. Well, simply put its yet another play on words, in this case a few of them. You see, this group of friends I hang out with, mostly anime/sci-fi/fantasy geeks like myself, had another individual hanging out with them with a similar brand of punnish wit and had dubbed him "Monkey." Well, being that we had a similar taste for bad puns, I was dubbed "Monkey Jr." (I've never quite understood why I had to be Jr., as I'm older by a few years, but whatever.) Anyway, being anime nerds this morphed into "Hou-Ju", which is a comingling of the Chinese word for monkey "Hou", and a Otaku-ish shortening of "Junior". Suffice it to say, it stuck.

Secondly, me. Now to explain oneself to others is a particularly daunting and usually boring task for the recipients, so I'll try to be brief. I'm a mid-thirties guy, recently finding a new interest in life and my part in it. I'm a total wiseass, smartass, and occasional jackass. I love the humor of many greats, not the least of which being George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Dennis Leary, Lewis Black, and Carlos Mencia. I've come to realize that life is too short to dwell on bullshit and keep yourself from enjoying the things that really matter. I've found I don't really have any friends, but oddly enough my family is HUGE, and some of them have no blood relation to me whatsoever.

Other than that, there isn't much to tell right off. Like my late mother, I've probably never met a real stranger. Some of you may or may not know what that means, but most native southerners will. Suffice it to say, I'll chatter with anybody about damn near anything so long as I've got enough to say about it. If you haven't guessed from the name explanation, I'm a total nerd, but I'm a realist, too. Love the things you love, but don't let them rule your life.

Hopefully I won't lose interest in this, as I can be somewhat flighty about some things, but I'm needing a sounding board/rant space right about now. I guess we'll see what we see on down the road, and hopefully the trip is worth it.
